Day 6 – Christmas Eve!

It’s Christmas Eve!

Today we woke to rain, probably as close to snow as we’ll get in August, which soon cleared to a breezy yet sunny day; perfect weather for the day’s adventures of canoeing and gorge-scrambling (or gully-bashing or ghyll-scrambling – take your pick!). The girls proved to be far more coordinated than the boys on the canoes and the others kept themselves warm in the gorge by dancing around in their wetsuits in between all the jumps and dives.

Jeff brought us God’s word today, looking at Luke 23:6-12. He guided us through Herod’s rejection of Jesus because of his hardened heart and asked us all what we are going to do about Jesus. We’ll be chatting about this in more depth in this evening’s tent prayers.

A highlight of today for many was most definitely the forever-favourite chicken curry pie which shall hopefully be a camp staple forever.

This evening’s activity is constructing newspaper nativities which form the shouts and laughter to be heard from the dining room promise to be particularly amusing.

We’ve got a daily competition this year challenging campers to share their best Christmas cracker joke and the winner gets dinner first as long as they wear a fabulously stylish Christmas tree hat. Today’s winning joke was…….

Q) What happened to the man who stole an advent calendar?

A) He got 25 days!
