Thursday and Friday on the good ship Compass

The last couple of days on camp seemed to fly by with barely a chance to pause for breath, let alone update the blog!

After a tough message delivered by Joe on Wednesday Tom took up the mantle and told us about eternal life on Thursday and followed up on Friday bringing the message of all the talks together in a summary.

Thursday afternoon saw the groups go out on the last of the outdoor activities, the older group slashing about in kayaks or having a dance-off on a slightly unstable raft whilst the younger group completed a series of challenges in the adventure race starting with a Tyrolean traverse (or rope zip wire) across Church Beck and culminating in a daunting 100ft abseil at Hodge Close quarry.

After re-fuelling on the ever popular chicken pies (a selection of gravy, curry and cream) the campers made pirate costumes from newspapers and did some essential canon (water-bomb catapult) target practice, something that perhaps should have been done earlier in the week as the accuracy was somewhat lacking.

On Thursday night we had a series of heavy storms and woke on Friday to a showery day. Following a picnic lunch at the campsite we headed into Ambleside, dodging the showers to solve riddles and find objects to re-provision our captain’s ship following the storm. Then it was back to camp for the last night festivities.
