Sunday on camp saw us going back in time to last year’s space theme, as today’s movie genre was Sci-fi (see our trailer on facebook). We started the day with the daily movie trailer (check out the Facebook page to see it!) before heading off to church in Ulverston.
We’re always very grateful to the church for welcoming us so warmly every year. One of the church elders, Ole, brought God’s word to us. We looked at Matthew 3:1-17 (Jesus’ baptism), thinking about what baptism is, why Jesus was baptised and why God the father was so pleased when the heavens opened and his voice came down.
Following tea and biscuits, we headed off to the beach at Roanhead to play some games and have some lunch. However, just as the campers were beginning their sci-fi sand sculpting competition, the heavens opened (in a different way to how we saw in Matthew chapter 3), and we had to abandon (space)ship and head back to camp. The plan to hunt around deep space for the plans for the Death Star also had to be postponed. Devastated and drenched, the campers trudged back to Coniston Sports Centre to dry off, but then had a great time playing some games indoors.
So good is the teaching programme at Compass Camps, and so eager were the campers to continue in their discovery of Jesus’ life, we invited Jeff to speak on Luke 4:1-15, and the campers learned about Jesus being tempted by Satan, yet overcoming that temptation through His perfect, sinless nature.
The cooks have just prepared a wonderful roast chicken dinner. The rain having stopped, the campers are now playing a game of cricket before we get ready for tent prayers and then bed, as Sci-fi Sunday comes to an end. What will tomorrow’s movie genre be? Tune in tomorrow to find out!
