Saturday – Prehistoric Camp

Welcome campers, leaders, parents and other friends and family, to Compass Camps 2025!

We have had our first day today, setting up final decorations and games in the morning, greeting the campers and their families, and then getting stuck in with icebreaker games to get to know each other better.

Another year, another venue… This year, camp is based at Grasmere sports centre, an awesome big space, good for football, frisbee and the like. Surrounded by the beautiful lake’s hills.

This year’s teaching has been coordinated by Ole once again, and begins tomorrow, as we travel down to Ulverston Grace Baptist Church to attend their Sunday service.

This afternoon we played some icebreaker games to get to know everyone. The theme for our games this week is time travel and today we started in pre-history. After the icebreakers there was a game in Grasmere where various historic characters were stranded in the past, the campers had to identify them all and help to get back to the right era. Not sure that Grasmere has experienced a dinosaur, medieval knight, Roman senator or a caveman running around the village – it definitely amused the tourists as well as campers!

The campers are currently thinking up catchy team names and decorating name badges for the week, soon they will be getting ready for bed and we will have ‘tent prayers’. This is a time where, as campers and leaders we an dig into God’s word, then talk about how we can apply it to our own, individual lives.

We would greatly value your prayers for the week ahead, the weather, the activities, the talks, tent prayer conversations. And that through Compass Camps, God would be glorified.
