Camp 2012 has ended, long live Camp 2013!!

Camp is over for another year. Everyone has returned home and the tiredness is a fading memory. Not so the enjoyment of the activities and games. The in-jokes and silly minibus songs live on as we make new friends on facebook, tag photos and share stories.

As we look back at the week and reflect on another amazing year we thank God for all his blessings and his goodness to us again. The morning teaching  entitled ‘Run for your life’, based on Hebrews 12:1-2, fitted in so well with the Olympic theme. It was inspiring to have Christ at the centre of camp as we focused on fixing our eyes on Jesus and all that means for starting and persevering in running the Christian race.

Tent prayers in the evenings looked at the Heroes of Faith in Hebrews 11, examining what faith is and how it works out in our lives. Tent prayers are an opportunity for campers to discuss and ask questions about the morning teaching and open up the scriptures in an informal setting. All tents had encouraging times and tent leaders developed good relationships with the campers. Pray that the tent leaders would be able to build on this and encourage the campers to seek and follow Christ.

For a wet summer we had fantastic weather. A few showers here and there but the afternoons were fine and we were able to do the outdoor activities on the Monday, Wedensday and Thursday. Climb365 provided the instructors again. It’s a real encouragement to have Christians leading the activities. We split into groups rotating through three activities; this year kayaking, rock climbing and ghyll scrambling. On the Thursday afternoon the oldest group travelled to Eskdale to scramble up a more challenging ghyll with big jumps.

This year’s Jubilympic camp theme was a great success. With the excitement of the Olympics still fresh in everyone’s minds and the school decorated with union flag bunting and London posters we extended the Olympic spirit for another week. We had a variety of London themed games culminating in live Monopoly around Ambleside on the Friday afternoon and a Royal Variety Performance in the evening.

As usual we’ve taken lots of photos and videos. Most are now uploaded to our flickr channel and our facebook page. Through these sites we aim to keep a reminder of the fun had on camp, share the experiences with parents and friends and encourage interest from potential new campers so please have a look and pass the details on to anyone that may be interested.

Please continue to pray for the campers as they return to their homes, churches and youth groups. Pray that the teaching will have a lasting effect and change these young lives.

So with only a few jobs remaining for this year’s camp we look forward to 2013. Planning has already begun and the school booked so put these dates in your diaries and watch out for the brochures later this year.
