The last day of the outdoor activities began with a cold night, a sign perhaps of the day to come as they prepared to plunge into the darkness of the Coniston ghyll. Thankfully the campers were well prepared for the cold of space. Safe in their tent pods they slept well snuggled into their sleeping bags. Thankfully the clear, starry night broke into a bright sunny morning and with the promise of a delicious breakfast the campers emerged to brave a new day.

As usual breakfast was followed by a short activity to get our bodies and minds active before the morning talk. This was brought to us by Joe, his second session. Speaking from Judges 16 he shared how Samson lost his heart, lost his eyes but eventually God saved his soul. It brought the message home of how Samson’s continued sin leads to giving his heart completely to Delilah and as God leaves him he still relies on his own strength. Captive and eyeless the “but” at the end of the chapter shows that God is still at work. The lesson that despite our failings and sin God is gracious, he sent Christ to die for us and his call goes out to all to turn to him.

As the afternoon began the campers squeezed into space (wet) suits and donning protective helmets and padding plunged into the darkness of deep space. Facing many perils they climbed waterfalls, plunged into deep pools and conquered their fears when leaping from great heights. All made it safely through to the top of ghyll emerging into the warmth of the Cumbrian sunshine, satisfied with the achievement and fun of the scramble.

Sadly today we had to say goodbye to a few campers and leaders. The leaders were especially missed during the leader vs camper football match. Thankfully the leader’s unbeaten record was maintained with a judicious calling of time after an equalising goal by Matt “Rocket” Prescott.

Please pray that as the tent leaders discuss the talk with the tent this evening that the Spirit would open their hearts and for Jeff who brings us the closing message on Samson’s life.

Unfortunately we didn’t have a waterproof camera this year so no photos from the ghyll but we did take some lovely group photos.
