Day 5, base camp activities started promptly at 7:30 am, with a quiet time to think and pray. This was swiftly followed by camper’s leaving their sleeping pods and heading for mission headquarters where they made their lunch and had breakfast in preparation for the exploration of a new planet, Raven Crag!

Before this took place, we picked up where we left off in Judges. Jeff, led the morning session, with the passage in focus being Judges 16:1-17, Samson and Delilah. Here we saw how Samson allowed himself to play with fire, the fire of temptation and sin, with the inevitable consequence of him getting burnt. We saw how Samson sadly eventually gave his heart to Delilah and betrayed the secret of his Nazirite vow. Campers and leaders alike where challenged to consider where their hearts truly belonged, the options being either totally with God or not at all. Time was given at the end of the session for camper’s to think through what they had just heard and to ask leader’s any questions. Evening tent prayer’s will seek to address some of these questions.

The challenging session was followed by a short 10 minute journey to the bottom of Raven Crag where we were met with adverse weather conditions that forced lunch to be taken undercover in our minibus space shuttle. Thankfully, these quickly passed and we were able to commence our ascent of Raven Crag with the guidance of experienced mountaineers from Climb365 UK and their very hyperactive dog, flye! The ascent was thoroughly enjoyed by all, though some found a few of the sections a little trickier to navigate than others. Campers were rewarded with beautiful views of lake Coniston both during and at the summit of the Crag. A steady descent followed to our minibus and a return to mission HQ for some well earned dinner.

Dinner was a chicken, rice and garlic bread supper followed by a decadent meringue and unexpected extra of well preserved cheesecake from a few days ago. A time of relaxation followed and as we write this blog, campers are hard at work in their tent teams designing, making and launching rockets made out of bottles and papers! Which will fly the highest?

As we get deeper with the teaching sessions and tent prayers, please pray that the Lord Jesus would standout clearer to the campers as a far superior deliverer than Samson. Please pray for energy levels to be renewed and for the Holy Spirit’s help as speakers and tent leaders present God’s Word to the campers. Pray that they would see their need of deliverance from sin and turn to the Lord Jesus!
