Following Friday’s Moon Landing party, there was one final mission – a safe re-entry into everyday, Earth life. Parents and carers came to meet their space cadets after their week-long mission aboard Starship Compass Camp, and some stayed behind to help clear up the debris left behind (tents). This just leaves us now to reflect on what a great success the mission has been…
The campers, ahem, ‘Space Cadets’ had a fantastic week of activities exploring new planets, including Ghyll Scrambling, Canoeing and Rock Scrambling. The rock scramble truly was a few small steps for the campers, but a collective giant leap to the top of the hill! A huge thank you again to Climb365 for all their preparation into the week’s activities, and their continued year-on-year support for Compass Camp.
The evening activities this year provided mental tests (a space quiz), engineering challenges (the bottle rocket launch) and various challenges testing their ability to eat in zero-gravity, amongst other things. The campers came through all these challenges with flying colours, but eventually it was The Space Guys (the oldest boys’ tent) who came through strongest, amassing the most points throughout the week in various activities and tent inspections. Well done to them, and a huge thank you to all leaders who prepared these activities throughout the week, or led tent prayers, or were just generally brilliant – camp wouldn’t be possible without your time and effort.
The food this week on camp was truly out of this world! With never before seen meals from faraway galaxies such as “Spanish Chicken”, alongside old favourites like “Chicken Curry Pie”, campers and leaders alike enjoyed every last morsel, and were thankful for the energy it provided to get through the space mission. A huge thank you to the wonderful cooks who give up their time each year and put lots of preparation into truly fantastic food.
Finally, to the greatest mission of all – God’s mission! We spent the week looking through the story of Samson in Judges 13-16, and we learned too much to mention in one blog post, but we hope the campers will remember how much of a sinner Samson was, and despite his numerous flaws, God continued to use him and bless him. In the same way, we know how deeply flawed we are, but by God’s amazing grace, we are saved through the wonderful gift of His son Jesus. All this and so much more was faithfully preached by four fantastic speakers this week, and we thank them so much for the preparation they put in and their brilliant delivery each day. We will be praying that each camper has a brilliant year until Camp 2019, and will continue to learn about and love their Lord more and more throughout the year.
Speaking of 2019, put these dates in your diary: 3rd to 10th August. As usual brochures will be going out early in the New Year but online booking should be available before then so watch out for updates over the next few months.
This is Compass Camp, until next year, signing off. *beep*
